摘要:The coupling relationship between habitat quality and urban development intensity presents both a theoretical challenge and an urgent practical issue for sustainable urban development. However, current assessment methods face substantial challenges in terms of scale selection and the systematic methodological frameworks. This study takes the main urban area of Zhengzhou, a rapidly urbanizing metropolis in China, as a case study. We established comprehensive evaluation

frameworks for both urban habitat quality and development intensity. To quantify habitat quality, we constructed a comprehensive Remote Sensing Habitat Quality Index (RSHQI) by integrating NDVI, WET, NDBSI, LST and DHI through Principal Component Analysis (PCA). For urban development intensity, we applied the entropy-weighted method, incorporating indicators such as population density, GDP per unit area, proportion of built-up land and average building height. Furthermore, based on granularity theory, we identified the optimal research scales and applied a coupling coordination model to analyze the relationship between habitat quality and development intensity. The results showed that, among the grid scales ranging from 60 to 5400 m, a 420 m grid was identified as the ideal scale for describing habitat quality. This scale was consistent with the actual block scale and objectively reflected the habitat information of Zhengzhou. Moreover, the habitat quality exhibited a strong coupling with urban development intensity, with a coupling degree of 0.866 and a coordination degree of 0.582. Notably, differences in coupling and coordination across administrative districts highlighted the diverse urban development models and ecological protection strategies in different regions. Based on these coupling characteristics, 21 distinct habitat types were identified and their spatial distribution patterns were analyzed, providing a scientific foundation for habitat restoration and biodiversity conservation.
